This gun was one of 112,269 manufactured by Colt under contract no. W-478-ORD-2179. It was shipped sometime around September, 1944.

Evidence from tracking serial numbers indicates that this gun served in China with the Naval Group, China, the Navy component of the Sino-American Cooperative Organization (SACO) associated with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).

Draggin' Anchor patch SACO trained guerillas and intelligence groups and established weather and radio intercept stations. It was said that "SACO guerillas killed more Japanese and destroyed more Japanese material with a smaller expenditure of men and supplies than any other force in the Far East.”
