My House

I bought a house in Pittsburgh. What a great city! It's actually in Penn Hills, which is an eastern suburb of the 'burgh, but they call it Pittsburgh anyhow. The area has many attractive houses. My house was built in 1929. The late 1920s was a boom time for Pittsburgh, so there are many nice homes from this era. It just so happens that I am quite partial to the 1920s sense of design. I am also partial to Arts and Crafts style. I have recently bought a couple of great Mission pieces.  If you like Mission furniture then you should check out the L & J.G. Stickley catalog. The same company that popularized the Mission style in the early years of this century are still at it.

The house is a brick Tudor with Craftsman influences. The facade is dominated by a massive random-coursed stone chimney mass. My

The focal point of the interior is the amazing kitchen. My Photo from Family Circle magazine, October 11, 1994. That's right! They did a 6-page spread on my kitchen.

Here is my Shrimp Jambalaya recipe

The walls throughout the house are of a horsehair plaster technique rather common in the Pittsburgh area. Arched doorways. Two full baths - the upstairs one has beautiful original 1920s ceramic tilework in excellent condition. The terraced yard is nice, and (for Pittsburgh) very large. Two internal garage bays and a finished attic with interesting windows.
