I collect postcards of bridges. My collection is arranged by bridge type, and I have over 6,000 cards. It is undoubtedly among the world's largest collections of bridge postcards.

I get many of my cards at antique stores and postcard shows. I trade cards with friends across the world including Brasil, the UK, Italy, Iran, Japan, Serbia, Spain, Singapore, and Switzerland. I have found that people who collect postcards tend to be interesting people.

Drop me a line if you would like to trade postcards with me. Chances are very good that I can find you the kind of cards that you like. And if you visit any really neat bridges, why not send me a postcard with your impressions of the bridge on it.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge, Tacoma WA.

This card is the pride of my collection. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was opened to traffic on July 1, 1940. Shortly thereafter it was given the nickname "Galloping Gertie" because of the way it rippled in the wind. On November 7, 1940, just 4 months after its opening, the bridge collapsed as the deck tore itself apart in the wind.

It is difficult to get postcards of this important bridge. This card was kindly given to me by Andreas Kessler who wrote an excellent book on the bridge.

Often the messages on the rear of the postcards are interesting.  I particularly like it when the message involves the bridge. Consider the following postcard, postmarked 1988:
Aberdaron, Gwynedd, U.K.

The message is:

Dear Granny + Grampy,
We went to Aberdaron on Monday.  I saw postman Pat driving over this bridge and I waived at him.  Today I saw Pat again at the Farm, he waived at me and peeped his horn.  He brought a letter from you.  I am having a lovely holiday.   Love from Eve  X
