Project Information Systems Manager, May 2004 to Present

Develops web-based (PHP/mySQL) systems used for the management of bridge and highway projects.

Designed, developed and currently maintains a Project Management website for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. This robust, multi-featured, secure database-driven website is the primary project management tool employed by the PTC and their consultants for the design of over $1.3 Billion in Total Reconstruction Projects.

Bridge Engineer, May 2000 to May 2004

Performed design tasks for bridge substructures and superstructures. Proficient with PennDOT design software including ABLRFD (abutments), BPLRFD (elastomeric bearings), PAPIER (piers), PSLRFD (prestressed beams), SPLRFD (splices), STLRFD (steel beams), etc.

Designed and checked numerous bridge erection and bridge demolition plans.

Designed the PS I-beams, deck, deck drainage, elastomeric strip seals, and elastomeric bearings for the 35-span Fort Pitt Boulevard Bridge replacement in Pittsburgh.

Performed design tasks for bridge substructures and superstructures.  Familiar with ACI, AISC, AASHTO, AREA and PennDOT specifications.  Worked on highway and railroad bridge rehabilitation projects Wheeling Suspension Bridge, built 1849.  Restored 1999.(including the Wheeling Suspension Bridge in Wheeling, WV) and the design of new bridges (including the I-80 bridge over the Susquehanna River in Northumberland County, PA).  Proficient in AutoCAD, structural analysis software, spreadsheet and database software, as well as MS Windows operating systems.


Performed bridge safety inspections to the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standards.  Work included routine, emergency and in-depth inspections on state-owned and locally-owned multi-beam, girder, truss, arch and movable bridges of steel, timber, stone, concrete and precast P/S concrete in the states of FL, OH, PA and WV.

Served as an engineer on the Pennsylvania Historic Bridges Inventory and Assessment, a survey of over 11,000 pre-1957 bridges in Pennsylvania for PennDOT.  Personally evaluated over 1,600 bridges for technological and historical significance.

Researched bridges of technological significance with the Iowa Historic Bridges Recording Project out of the field office in Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa DOT. Had sole responsibility for documenting seven bowstring arch bridges from c. 1870 - 1880.
Fremont Mills Bridge (Upper Chord Detail), Center Junction, Iowa.  
Built 1873. Studies involved historic research and investigation of the behavior of the structures. Provided engineering guidance to the architectural field teams. Served as Administrative Supervisor for the team.
